In a typical academic year, 60 percent of students participate in public interest activities, through clinics and voluntary student groups, and students can also choose from an array of public interest-related courses.

Lewis & Clark Law School, The Place for Public Interest Law Lewis & Clark Law School has a long and rich history of supporting students and alumni interested in public service.

We offer a nationally-recognized public interest law program with more than one-third of our recent graduates entering full-time careers in the government or nonprofit.

Law schools around the country do not typically offer public interest law degree programs, but some do offer certificates in the area. The Public Interest Law Center (“PILC”) was created in to bring together the Law School’s many public interest activities and programs, support students in their aspirations to become public interest attorneys, and to provide comprehensive public interest career development services.

The school runs a public interest mentorship program for students with an interest in public interest law. It also funds students pro bono work during the summers, and holds an annual public interest legal career fair. As the number one public interest law school in the nation, our mission is two-fold: we learn, teach, and practice law in the service of human needs and we transform the law so that it includes those it would otherwise exclude, marginalize, and oppress.

The National Jurist has announced 25 law schools that stand above and beyond the rest when it comes to public interest law.
